You may suspect a problem if you notice severe tooth pain; however, it is only after a visit with our dentists that you can be certain if you need root canal treatment. Some of the more common symptoms that might indicate this type of care include:

  • A severe toothache
  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Swollen or red gums
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums
  • Pain when biting down or chewing

The Root Canal Process

Once we confirm your need for a root canal, you will be scheduled for treatment at a later date. On the day of your treatment, you will receive local anesthesia that will numb the appropriate area of your mouth.

We will isolate the tooth with a latex dental dam to keep moisture out while we work. When ready, we will make a small opening in the top of the tooth to access the inner canals and pulp chamber. One of our dentists will use various instruments to begin clearing out all decayed and infected tissues within the canals. We will also remove the infected pulp from the innermost portion of your tooth.

After sterilizing the interior, gutta-percha will be used to fill this area, ensuring the tooth remains sturdy and structurally sound. After placing a dental filling to keep bacteria from reentering the tooth, a custom dental crown will be created and placed on top for better protection.
